Abbey Tax Team
David heads up the Abtax Consultancy team which provides telephone tax & VAT advice and representation during HMRC enquiries. David worked in the Revenue for 14 years as both an Employer Compliance Officer and Inspector of Taxes before joining Abbey Tax in 1997. He has represented clients at contentious General Comissioners Hearings and has considerable experience of enquiry work. David is also a regular lecturer on enquiries and has published several articles on the subject.
Richard has 19 years in the Revenue which gave him vast experience as an Inspector of Taxes dealing with Sole Traders and Partnerships and as an Area Manager for an enquiry team. Richard joined the Abbey Tax team in 2005 and helps to manage the consultancy team. He also heads up our ReCap Capital Allowances Surveying Service which looks at 'fixed' capital allowances within commercial buildings - a services increasingly popular with accountants and businesses.
Nigel has experience of both Customs & Excise as a VAT Visiting Officer and also in practice as the VAT Manager for two large accountancy practices in Birmingham. He is a veteran of over 100 VAT Tribunals and has been with Abbey Tax since 1999 providing VAT advice and representation to clients.
Mark worked with Customs & Excise from 1978 and has experienced various VAT roles throughout this time. He has not only been a VAT Visiting Officer but also the Deputy National Manager for a national campaign and an investigator in a Cross Tax Evasion Team.
Steve worked for 21 years in the Revenue and specialised in Special Office - now part of Special Investigations. Steve was involved in a number of projects into high profile sectors and was then headhunted by PwC to defend their clients. Steve now deals with numerous SI investigations and lectures to accountants about SI enquiries.
Jacqui was an Inspector of Taxes with HMRC before joining a firm of accountants where she consulted on clients under investigation and in particular PAYE Compliance and Benefits in Kind. She deals with HMRC enquiries but specialises in Status and IR35 issues. Jacqui also has significant experience of small business and understands the demands on businesses today.
Ian worked within the Revenue for 32 years and in his role as an Inspector of Taxes dealt with enquiries into Sole Traders and Partnerships. He was also responsible for running the General Commissioners Hearings for the Revenue Office.
James worked as an Inspector of Taxes within the Revenue dealing with enquiries into Sole Traders and Partnerships until he joined Abbey Tax in 2005. James now represents clients under local office investigation.
During Nigel's 21 years in the Revenue he dealt with enquiries into Sole Traders and Partnerships as an Inspector of Taxes. Nigel was also Manager of the Employer Compliance Team dealing with technical issues arising from payroll inspections.
Steve's spent 31 years in the Revenue where he covered Collection, Taxes, Employer Compliance and Enquiry work. He was also involved in HMRC's enquiry selection process and managed a team dealing mainly with company enquiries.
Paul worked within the Revenue for 32 years and progressed through the Revenue Collection Division. He was also an Auditor and Manager of an Employer Compliance Team. He then became an Inspector of Taxes dealing with a variety of enquiries.
Margo has 22 years experience within the Revenue dealing with all aspects of personal tax from Directors to Sole Traders and Partners. Margo now manages our Tax Advisory section and is a member of the Association of Taxation Technicians.
Guy worked within the Revenue as an Inspector of Taxes dealing with enquiries into Sole Traders and Partnerships. He was also involved in the Revenue JoSET (Joint Shadow Economy Teams) pilot project that was the forerunner to the merger of the Inland Revenue and Customs & Excise.
Brian has experience of working in both the Revenue and private practice. After leaving HMRC he worked as a Tax Manager dealing with a general portfolio of clients. He provides a variety of taxation advice but specialises in the Construction Industry and IR35 issues.
Vinesh previously worked in private practice accountancy firms, where he developed his interest in taxation issues. He is currently an ACCA finalist and expects to qualify later this year. He provides advice to a variety of tax and accountancy professionals.
Katherine worked in a Big 4 firm as an Assistant Manager in the Private Client Sector. She has several years experience providing advice in all areas of personal taxation with specific knowledge of dealing with corporate insolvencies.
Zeeshan used to be head of the Personal Taxation department of a private practice and was also a lecturer in business and personal tax for the AAT. He has run a successful business outside of the tax field and has completed his ACCA qualifications.
